Is women’s health necessary if I feel good?

Yes. Express Urgent Care encourages all people 15 and older with female reproductive organs to schedule regular women’s health care.

Regular checkups at Express Urgent Care provide peace of mind and alert you to problems so that they can’t worsen.

What services does women’s health provide?

The Express Urgent Care team offers various women’s health services, including:

Physical exams

A physical exam assesses your health from head to toe. During a physical, your provider checks your vital signs, examines your skin, and gently presses on your abdomen to assess the size and position of your internal organs. They also order lab work, like blood tests and urinalysis, and refill your prescriptions.

Pap smears

A Pap smear is an outpatient test that checks for cervical cancer.

During a Pap smear, your provider takes a swab of your cervix. They send your sample to a nearby lab that analyzes it for precancerous or cancerous cells.

Breast exams

During a breast exam, your provider looks at your breasts’ size, shape, and symmetry. They gently feel your breasts for lumps or abnormal growths and check for sensitivity. If anything is abnormal, your provider refers you to a specialist for a mammogram (breast X-ray).

Vaccines

Vaccines teach your immune system to defend against pathogens, like viruses and bacteria. Express Urgent Care administers various vaccines, including the seasonal flu shot, the COVID-19 vaccine, and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

Family planning

Family planning focuses on birth control and pregnancy. For example, if you want to start a family, the team makes recommendations to help prepare your body for pregnancy. Alternatively, if you want to avoid getting pregnant, they recommend contraceptives.

Mammogram referrals

A mammogram is a breast X-ray that checks for breast cancer. Express Urgent Care refers all women aged 50-74 to a nearby radiology facility for mammograms. Most women benefit from a mammogram every two years, but more frequent mammograms might be necessary if you have a family history of breast cancer.

How often do I need women’s health care?

The Express Urgent Care team encourages all women to schedule a checkup at least once a year. Between visits, eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and avoid bad habits like smoking and drinking excessive alcohol.
